Fire Risk Assessment

What is a Fire Risk Assessment?

In short, a Fire Risk Assessment is a careful look at your premises and the people who use them, from a fire prevention perspective. It’s about understanding the potential risks and then improving your fire safety precautions to keep people safe.

This Fire Risk Assessment checklist template aims to help you to:

  1. Identify the fire hazards
  2. Identify people at risk
  3. Evaluate, remove or reduce the risks
  4. Record your findings
  5. Perform regular reviews and updates

Why do it?

A Fire Risk Assessment is a legal requirement. In the UK, you are considered a "Responsible Person" with regard to fire safety if you have control of non-domestic premises, for example, as a landlord or business owner. A part of that responsibility is to ensure a suitably competent person carries out and regularly reviews a Fire Risk Assessment.

You can find out more about your responsibilities (in the UK) and download assessment guides here that may help you adapt this template to your specific requirements.

Note: You must keep a written record of your Fire Risk Assessment if your business employs more than 5 people.

Why use Risk Memo?

There are a number of benefits of a digitised system compared to paper. Here are just a few examples of the benefits of using a digital system like Risk Memo:

Dynamic content

One of the key benefits of all digital checklists is that they are dynamic. For example, with this Risk Memo template, risk assessment sections for appliances, fire extinguishers, escape routes and others are in repeating sections, meaning you can add as many as you need.

Risk Memo also leaves out unanswered questions so that your final report is not cluttered with empty sections that aren't relevant.

Equipment Inspection History

We have developed a unique and simple system to attach equipment records to checklists. In this case, the equipment could be your fire extinguishers, warning systems (alarms) and even your fire doors. By attaching these items to the risk assessment, you can provide evidence that each item has been inspected and reviewed correctly.

Being digital and stored in the cloud, you don't risk losing this valuable evidence in a fire either.

Media Rich

A picture paints a thousand words and there is simply no better evidence of a properly stored fuel source or correct fire extinguisher pressure than a picture of it. With Risk Memo, you can also annotate and type on images if needed.

Manage Actions

The core purpose of a Fire Risk Assessment is to identify risks and improve your safety precautions. With our digital checklist, you are able to assign actions to yourself or your team members, as well as a priority and due date, so nothing gets forgotten.
